So much to say about this simply wonderful post. I love your writing and I love you even though I’ve never met you. Your writing resonates. 🥰

Thank you - I have missed writing so much, and really glad to know it’s landing with such great people x

I love and adore Lupin, my Siamese cat and you’ve articulated everything I’ve always thought about my cats so beautifully. Thank you!

You know how sometimes you meet someone and instantly feel you’ve known them for years and they are, in fact, of your tribe? I realise it is presumptuous, but you are that person. I have only “met” you recently, but you chime, you really do. Even the fact that my tulips are still sitting waiting in their paper bags, my linen cupboard is my (only) tidy place, with edges lined up and shelves labelled. No cat any more, we flit around too much, so that space is a hollow emptiness. But I’m sorry to report, my empty nest hasn’t helped me to get rid of stuff. And who, who, can decently part with books?

I think there may be a good number of us 💚

I'm enjoying your Nothing Important writing so much. This one particularly resonates. I adore my cats and cannot move when they chose to cuddle up to me.

Cats take precedence. The end. X

I love cats too but am hideously allergic so we have a whippet who is the most cat-like dog you can get and with whom I am besotted. Cats and dogs are wonderful little beings. ❤️❤️❤️

Yes, - a whippet is totally a good cat substitute - equally elegant and snuggly at the same time

I love your writing, Laetitia. It is like a warm cup of tea.

What a stupendously LOVELY thing to say! Thank you.

Just thank you for your writing, and for making the path easier for those of us also swimming upstream. I have a problem with books.. Especially my children's books.. Even the ones with no spine and most of the pages crushed at the bottom of their book storage box.

I'm horribly allergic to cats too but you're making me think that it doesn't matter... Little Chip was a great source of happiness to me in my teenage years. I became quite obsessed and got an A in my art thanks to knowing every little bit of him and how he moved and lounged. Cats are just perfect.

I didn't write about the cat/teen thing - it probably deserves a whole separate post - but suffice to say, they have been instrumental in helping with my teenager. I'm glad you had a cat then, even though you were allergic...and the books, yes - can't get my head around any type of cull, however small...the nearest I get is to pass them on to my smaller nephews.

Dear Laetitia,

Have wanted to reply for weeks but have had dreaded flu.

I love your writing. It strikes a chord, every time!

Have not done anything on the "to do" list for weeks but instead of the normal rising panic that there is so much to be done to achieve the "perfect" Christmas. I seem to have achieved a Zen like state of not worrying, as long as everyone is happy. Long may it continue!

Dear Ruth - thank you for this kind message and I'm very glad you've reached the Zen part of panic! xxx

That was the best start to my day in ages! I’m with you 100% about cats - I love my Callie to distraction & yes, I get called ‘crazy cat lady’ but do I care? Not a jot! 😂

Thank you so much for your lovely post. I am lucky to get to share my house with two amazing rescue cats, and I can't imagine life without them. Cats are so wise and you highlight that wisdom beautifully.

They really are.

I am horribly, violently allergic to cats but would SO adore to have one. Even more so after reading this love letter. My son is begging for a puppy: I am not a dog person (and am allergic to most dogs, too) but his pleas of “I want an animal to sit on my lap that I can love and they can love me” hit me RIGHT in the heart. Xx

Oh Lord that is a tricky one! He will have to have a gerbil or something that doesn't make you sneeze and then get a cat or a dog as soon as he goes to University! x

Laetitia, I really think we need another book from you - your writing is just such a joy!
