It’s all so pretty and going to look gorgeous over Christmas. As demonstrated by my terrible wreath at the weekend - I am sticking to garden design 🤣 - I’m delegating! On the follows - it’s where you don’t have to commit to subscribing to someone’s newsletter, but you’re kept in the loop about what they’re up to. I love it as there’s just so much here that I often don’t get round to subscribing immediately to those I follow, but eventually I get there as I’m kept abreast by following…. Does that make ANY sense? Xxx much love

Ahhh so it’s like a sort of place-holder! That totally makes sense yes - I tend to screenshot things I’m interested in but your way is FAR more efficient!

I’ve gone a bit mad with the decorating only because we are actually away for xmas week so I feel like it doesn’t matter if things get a bit crispy x

Huge THANK YOU for letting us read your content without paying 👀 I am new to Substack and just flay my way through. I do already pay for some content but it’s very easy to get carried away and the monthly subscriptions soon mount up. I love all the little insights into your everyday life so please continue ✨💕✨

Absolute pleasure - I love writing this letter - thank you so much for being here!

Beautiful Laetitia! I've done garlands for the first time earlier this year. Use a length of rope, make bunches of foliage and attach to the rope tightly with florists wrapping wire. When it's in situ, attach old test tubes with wire, fill them with water and insert fresh flowers. If I can work out how to, will send photo. X

This sounds fabulous - love the test tube idea….endless possibilities 😍

All the Happyzzzzzz. These are beautiful images and fab tips thank you so much.I can’t afford to subscribe so I just adore the free content I have access to.

Thank you for being here! x

Gosh it's looks so beautiful. Floristry intimidates me but I like thinking that most people will not notice whether or not you are an actual florist!!b Hot pink and acid green (or the rather sexier sounding versions you have) are one of my favourite colour combos.

I am an ignoramus regarding Substack as I fell into it by accident. I followed you here from IG and various others from their newsletters. I don't know what a 'follow' is nor a 'restack' so I'm going to read through your comments and hopefully learn a bit.

Dear Nicki - It seems you are not alone re Substack! As a reader I too would remain in blissful ignorance and just get everything emailed to me. For the writers though, it seems to have become yet another social media platform...the main page is a thing called 'notes' which is basically like twitter, that you scroll and scroll through. It's a wonderful platform, but obviously it has shareholders just like any other business and hooking people in to a social media feed is the way to keep people where they want them.

Ah yes, this makes sense!

Your wreath is utterly fabulous & all the pots of goodness. I love schlepping in all the greenery, my very favourite part of the decorating.

Laetitia Maklouf's avatar

It has been thoroughly enjoyable!

I need that postman story, please and thank you. I’ll swap you my embarrassing/styled it out Barry Norman story

I'm only a paid subscriber to one account at this point and that's because it's a podcast and I want access to a whole tier of information that you only get if you subscribe. I consume a lot of content and I really can't afford to subscribe to many, so for most, I just read the free content and I'm thankful it's provided. I completely understand that there are creators here who are trying to make it possible for them to keep creating though. I try to support creators how I can, such as buying your wonderful 5 Minute Garden book. It's easier for me to buy things as I can without the long term commitment.

Laetitia Maklouf's avatar

I don’t do any paid content - I’m just interested in the difference in people’s minds between a follow and a subscribe and I think I’ve worked out that it helps to find someone whose work you want to read x

I'd be interested to know how long your greenery lasts indoors. I do know that conifer branches left out of water brown very quickly indoors. In my snowy below zero climate I decorate pots and window boxes outside with a mix of conifer branches from our forest and dried foliage from the garden. I then finish off with some tiny battery operated lights. We don't have curtains so everything can be seen from indoors. The timing has to be just right though. It has to be warm enough for the branches to be poked into the soil but also cold enough at night to freeze the water needed to hold them in place. One strong wind without water in the pots and there will be greenery all over the garden.

Your decorations sound exquisite! How lovely to have it all lit up outside. Everything in my arrangements is in water, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have to chop and replace things as they go over. We aren’t here for Christmas, so I figured I’d let rip and hang the consequences!

I enjoy your emails but I find Substack (like Medium) really irritating - both send me endless notifications of articles I am not in the least interested in.

Laetitia Maklouf's avatar

That is VERY annoying. I think there is probably a way of switching them off but search me! x

A chilly good morning

I don’t subscribe to substack as I don’t really know anything about it ! The weather prevented my Christmas tree outing this weekend so today’s the day !!

Have a good week 🎄

Good morning! I wish you joy and the perfect tree!

I followed you here from IG and am delighted to find you again - I LOVE your writing! Although I believe writers should be paid as others are paid for their skills, I do wish, wish, WISH there was a subscription where you could choose, say, 6 writers to follow, as in a magazine. And the subscriptions vary so!

Thank you for being the (free) joy that you are! 🥰

Lovely festiveness! I do wish my cat would allow me to have some greenery in my flat.

I subscribe to too many people, and sometimes my inbox feels very overwhelming (I joined substack in the summer, when teacher holidays meant I had many lazy days to get stuck into reading all the gorgeous newsletters), so sometimes I feel as though I can't commit to another subscription - because I do like to settle down with all the unread ones when i have a chance - but the person seems interesting, or reposts interesting stuff, so I follow them. or sometimes they seem interesting and write interesting notes, but their actual newsletter is about something specific that I'm not particularly interested in.

Gosh this is all stunning Laetitia! Is there anything more delicious than a red velvet bow. Gorgeous!
